Right Now

We as a people are encountering the fight of this decade for our rights that white supremacists still refuse us after more than one hundred years. Our cries have been ignored for so long! Too many of our lives have been taken, most recently George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, at the hands of our nations police force that was put in place to "serve and protect". We are just now breaking the bullet proof glass of oblivion, or just plain apathy, encapsulating those benefiting from the system rewarding white people with privilege and all of the rights that are written in this country's constitution. We are demanding a country to be rebuilt to recognize us as its citizens. We are no longer succumbing to being disposable at the will of the white man who sees fit. We have the long due right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

As we continue to fight on the frontlines and in every situation we come across in our daily lives we must be libraries of knowledge. It is only through knowledge that we can break the recurring patterns of history. It is the first step in accessing where we are right now with systemic racism.

It is why I am dedicating the next 30 Days to a series wherein I will draw a portrait of and write a personal letter to a black activist and storyteller everyday. We must learn from these icons both living and no longer with us and teach ourselves through revisiting their fights, both in the past and those currently.
